EDUCATION Between the New Year with Old Exams

Each year, the implementation of national examinations in various parts of Indonesia, including in DIY, always attached to the story of anxiety. When scrolling and changing times, passing the exams-from year to year, still just become a means of "living-dead". Being a student for three years betting they undergo the process of education.

In the last three years there is always carrying thousands of middle and high school students in Yogyakarta who failed the national exam. In junior high education level, nearly 4500 students do not pass the exam in academic year 2007/2008. Two years later, although the number of junior high school students who do not pass the exams is reduced, there is still a lot, which reached 3,000 students.

Conditions are not much different from that experienced by students taking exams in high school. A total of 1568 students did not pass the national examination DIY High School, MA, and vocational schools this year, which consists of 1027 high school students and MA as well as 541 vocational school students.

Figures such failure was decreased compared with the implementation of the UN two years earlier, but still leaves the question final exam on thousands of students who failed.
Determinants of graduation
Results of UN becomes very important for students because initially be a determinant of graduation. Not a few students felt the bitterness of the impact of these determinants of graduation. Six years running, since the academic year 2002/2003, the UN presence as a determinant of graduation began to change.

In the 2009/2010 academic year, the UN is not a determinant of graduation from high school students and MA. This is because the UN will be submitted to teachers and their schools to be recycled or combined with school exams.

Although no longer a determinant of graduation, there are many middle and high school students in Yogyakarta who failed in the UN remains the remaining issues that should ideally be able to solve.

Students who passed the means has been completed in all aspects of education, from all educational programs, passed the aspects character and personality, graduate school subjects tested, and including passing the national examination. That is, do not pass the UN still can cause the student can not be declared complete education in junior high or high school level.
Quality education
The presence of UN is important because it illustrates the quality of school education throughout Indonesia. In fact, the area known to be at the level of education provision such as the DIY quality is still facing a major problem: many students do not graduate.

Simply put, the picture reflected the terms of the availability of adequate education teachers. The availability of teachers in Yogyakarta since four years ago spelled out more than enough.

In 2006, the ratio of teachers and students in junior high school and madrasah tsanawiyah each 1: 11 and 1: 8. In high school and vocational school level, the same student-teacher ratio, ie 1: 9, while at the MA education ratio 1: 6. Pupil-teacher ratio is better than Malaysia (1: 2) or Japan (1: 20), known as the developed countries.

Observing the fact the UN and the only indicator of teacher supply at least a benchmark that the mission of mapping the quality of education through the UN should ideally only be observed if the test results are also considering other variables.

Without more serious efforts from the government to understand the variables that affect the quality of education can be ensured the process toward graduation student at the new school year coming back only to repeat the sad story about the exam "style" long. (Milky Baskara / R & D Compass)
